As construction continues in and around the Alamo, vehicle access is closed to ensure public safety and support the progress of ongoing work.
These restrictions are part of the broader effort to transform the Alamo District into a pedestrian-focused space, creating a safer and more welcoming environment for visitors in the years to come.

Traffic Advisory in the Alamo District

Alamo Promenade

The Alamo Promenade, located just south of Plaza de Valero, will soon transform into a thoughtfully designed space featuring statues honoring key historical figures, shaded seating areas, and interpretive signage. This week crews are crews are wrapping up tree planting and moving ahead with irrigation and small plantings across the Promenade. Work on the gateway marker and south-side pavers is also underway. The project remains on track for completion in November 2025.
Visitor Center and Museum (VCM)

Visitor Center and Museum (VCM), scheduled to open in the Fall of 2027, is progressing. Crews are pushing forward across several zones. Recent work includes pouring the elevator pit slab and walls at the Crockett Building, waterproofing new foundation walls near the Hyatt Garage, and reinforcing decks at the Theater. Underground plumbing at the Old Palace Theater and Woolworth is wrapping up, with backfilling underway at Woolworth.
Texas Cavaliers Education Center

The Texas Cavaliers Education Center interior progress remains strong, with terrazzo polishing underway, curtain wall installation on the second floor, and sheetrock and ceiling finishes moving forward. Painting has begun inside Alamo Hall. The project remains on schedule for completion in February 2026.
Cenotaph - Restoration

The restoration of the Alamo Cenotaph is well underway. Work continues with stone patching, reinstallation, and concrete work in the surrounding areaway. The Cenotaph remains on track for completion in fall 2025.The Cenotaph project remains on track for completion in fall 2025. Paseo del Alamo

The Paseo del Alamo work is advancing with paver installation, concrete wall pours, and backfilling between grade beams. Preparations for elevator steel are beginning.This projects is scheduled for April 2026 completion.
Houston North Streetscape - Important Announcement

Pedestrian access along the north sidewalk will remain open during construction of the Visitor Center and Museum, scheduled for completion in 2027.
Fencing within the roadway will stay in place to support safe progress and pedestrian access. To help visitors and nearby businesses, wayfinding signage and updated pedestrian maps have been created.
Looking ahead, Houston Street—from North Alamo to Avenue E in front of the Garcia Federal Building—is expected to close by late 2025. Temporary closures have begun for archaeology and potholing.
A new turnaround has been established on North Alamo St., moving south from Travis St. to Houston St., which provides continued access to the area, including the Gibbs Hotel. The full closure of Houston Street in this area is still expected by late 2025, we will provide as much notice as possible when the permanent closing of this street section (in front of the Garcia Federal Building) on Houston St. is closed.

Thanks to the collaboration with Visit San Antonio, we have developed an updated Alamo Plaza Wayfinding Map. This resource is designed to enhance your visit by providing clear and comprehensive navigation through the area. You can download a copy of the map. Additionally, a physical copy can be obtained by visitors at the Alamo Welcome Center.
