Hands-On Learning

Hold history in your hands! Alamo history trunks are filled with reproduction 1830s and 1840s objects designed to combine TEKS with a hands-on experience in the classroom. Educators may loan trunks on a first come, first serve basis for two weeks.

How History Trunks Work

An Alamo history trunk.

If you're new to history trunks, here's what to expect.

Each trunk contains a collection of replica historical objects designed to explore life in 1830s and 1840s Texas. Items range from clothing to eating utensils and examples of period food. Everyday items such as playing cards, a compass and a fire starting kit are also included. Together these objects are designed to introduce four important historical themes to students:

  • Clothing
  • Nourishment
  • Tools
  • Luxury goods
