In celebration of International Day of Charity, the Remember the Alamo Foundation is proud to announce a $1 million gift from the Dawson Charitable Foundation, established by the Dawson family. This generous commitment will be recognized through the Alamo’s future Shade Garden—located between the historic Alamo Church and the Texas Cavaliers Education Center—which will be presented by the Dawson Charitable Foundation.

This milestone contribution marks the founding gift of the Alamo Endowment, establishing a long-term fund to enhance the historic site for generations to come. The endowment will support ongoing Alamo operations, educational programs, and visitor experience initiatives across the grounds, ensuring that our shared history remains accessible well into the future.

“This gift isn’t just about today—it’s about the future of the Alamo,” said Sam Dawson, Director of the Dawson Charitable Foundation. “We hope it inspires others to consider how they, too, can help sustain this place that means so much to Texas and beyond.”

“The Alamo Trust, Inc. is proud to serve as the nonprofit steward of this sacred site,” said Dr. Kate Rogers, President and CEO of the Alamo Trust, Inc. “On International Day of Charity, we are especially honored to recognize this remarkable gift from the Dawson family and the Dawson Charitable Foundation. Their generosity establishes a lasting foundation that will help preserve the Alamo and inspire future generations.”

The Alamo Shade Garden, presented by the Dawson Charitable Foundation, will offer a peaceful place for reflection where nature and history meet. Featuring native Texas plants, accessible pathways, and the restored Crockett Fountain, it serves as a meaningful new addition near the Alamo Church and Education Center.

As the Alamo continues its $550 million Alamo Plan—bringing a new Visitor Center and Museum, the Texas Cavaliers Education Center, and expanded green spaces to life—the launch of the Alamo Endowment is a pivotal step in ensuring this work endures for generations.
