**This trip is reserved for current teachers seeking professional development credit only.**

Teachers are invited to apply for a free one-day trip to historic sites and museums in Austin. Teachers will participate in guided visits at the Texas State Cemetery, the Bullock Texas State History Museum, the Texas State Capitol, and other locations.

This experience is entirely free to teachers. It includes transportation, meals, and admission to historic sights outlined in the itinerary. Overnight accommodations preceding and following the trip are provided for teachers traveling from outside the San Antonio area.

In advance of the trip, teachers hear about the connections between the Alamo and the sites featured on the trip, especially how the Battle of the Alamo, Texas Revolution, and early Texas are prominently recognized at state sites in Austin. Teachers will make connections between the 1936 Centennial Commission projects in Austin and at the Alamo.

During the trip, teachers visit the Texas State Cemetery, where people like Stephen F. Austin, José Antonio Navarro, and other famous Texans are memorialized. We’ll also see the grave of Battle of the Alamo survivor and messenger Susanna Dickinson at nearby Oakwood Cemetery. At the Bullock Texas State History Museum, teachers will explore the Texas History Galleries, view the IMAX film Star of Destiny, and interact with the Bullock education team. Next, teachers will tour the Texas State Capitol and view the historic artwork by artists William Henry Huddle, Henry Arthur McArdle, and Elisabet Ney. The last stop of the trip is a visit to the 1869 home of Susanna Dickinson and her husband Joseph Hannig at the Brush Square Museums. Teachers will enjoy a closing dinner and return to San Antonio.
