On January 12, 1836, the Mexican Government shut down the ports of Matagorda and Galveston in retaliation for the Texas Revolution.

This document, signed by Colonel José Gomez de la Cortina, Governor of the Federal District (Mexico City), issued the closure.

The Mexican Government attempted to limit commerce and aid from entering Texas during the revolution.
