Alamo Archaeology Church Preservation - March 28

March 28, 2025

Investigations continued for the Church Preservation Project. Archaeologists completed work in EU-7 and continued artifact processing in the lab.

Excavations at EU-7 terminated at 120 cm below surface. At the base of the unit, archaeologists encountered the cementitious caliche layer which was much shallower than in the previous unit. As archaeologists reached the deeper soils, few artifacts were found. This unit had evidence of heavy previous disturbance. Utility conduits and broken ceramic pipes were present throughout the unit. There was also a significant amount of construction related debris such as nails, metal fragments, and concrete. After excavations, archaeologists completed final documentation of the unit. Due to weather conditions, the remainder of the week was spent processing artifacts in the lab.
