Alamo Archaeology Church Preservation - July 25

July 25, 2025

Archaeological investigations continued at the Alamo Church last week. Excavations at EUs 31 and 34 were completed and excavation began in EU-35.

Archaeologists started in EU-35 towards the end of the week and reached a maximum depth of approximately 10 cm below surface. The eastern portion of this unit is within the footprint of a previous archaeological unit. The soil was very loose throughout the entire level and was part of a modern landscaping topsoil that was placed around the Church. No artifacts were encountered during excavation.

While archaeologists were busy mapping in EUs 31 and 33, artifact processing was also occurring in the lab. Two more mule shoes were found in the same location as the mule shoe from last week! The team also found a partial button and the head of a hatchet.
