Samuel Holloway, Alamo defender, son of James S. and Martha Owen (Spencer) Holloway, was born at Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, in 1808. He came to Texas by way of Tennessee and New Orleans as a member of Capt. Thomas H. Breece's company of New Orleans Greys. Holloway took part in the siege of Bexar and remained in Bexar as a member of Capt. William Blazeby's infantry company. He died in the battle of the Alamo on March 6, 1836.
