Hiram James Williamson, Alamo defender, sergeant-major of the Alamo garrison, son of Hiram Williamson, Sr., was born in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, in 1810. He emigrated to Texas and settled at Washington-on-the-Brazos. Williamson took part in the siege of Bexar. He later served the garrison at Bexar as sergeant-major, making him the highest ranking enlisted man in the Alamo. He died in the battle of the Alamo on March 6, 1836.
