Edward Nelson, Alamo defender, son of William Nelson, was born in South Carolina in 1816. He joined the Texas army at San Antonio on November 26, 1835, and took part in the siege of Bexar as a member of Capt. John W. Peacock's artillery company. On January 1, 1836, Nelson became a member of Capt. John Chenoweth's company. Nelson may have been one of the volunteers who accompanied James Bowie to the Alamo in January 1836. He died in the battle of the Alamo on March 6, 1836, along with his older brother, George Nelson.
