The Alamo is delighted to announce a $1 million gift from The Impetus Foundation led by philanthropist Carlos Alvarez and his family. This generous donation to the Remember The Alamo Foundation will aid in its mission to preserve the historic Alamo grounds and restore a sense of reverence in honor of the site's 300-year multicultural heritage that helped shape the State of Texas.

As part of the Alamo Plan, the Exhibition Hall and Collections Building will open late this year to house and safeguard some of the most treasured items from the Alamo collection as well as the Phil Collins Texana Collection. The new 24,000-square-foot building will also include a second-story terrace overlooking the Alamo Gardens and will be named the Alvarez Family Terrace in recognition of this significant gift. This one-of-a-kind outdoor venue will be available for special events and gatherings to help support the preservation of the Alamo's history and its structures.

The Exhibition Hall and Collections Building will also feature A Collector's Journey, an exhibit inspired by the Phil Collins Collection to help visitors understand how and why people acquire these rare collections. In 2014, Collins donated his priceless artifacts to the General Land Office of Texas. His collection and those of other generous donors of cherished historical items led to the construction of the first new building on the Alamo grounds since the 1950s.

In making this gift, Alvarez stated, “My family and I are proud to be a part of this effort to preserve and enhance the historic Alamo site so that future visitors to the site and its fellow UNESCO World Heritage-designated missions have an appreciation for the role these treasures played in the history of San Antonio and the State of Texas.”

"We are honored to accept this generous gift from Mr. Alvarez and the Impetus Foundation for the Alvarez Family Terrace, which will open at the newest structure on the Alamo grounds later this year. This charitable donation will help preserve the Alamo and convey the site's 300-year history to future generations." Kate Rogers said, Executive Director of the Alamo Trust, Inc.
