Join us as we remember the U.S. Army's deep history at the Alamo with United States Army Day on Tuesday, April 29.
The Alamo and the Army have a longstanding partnership dating back nearly 180 years. When Texas joined the United States in 1845, the Alamo served as an Army outpost and depot for the next 30 years. During that time, the Army added the Alamo Church's famous bell-shaped top, completing the walls and roof.
The annual U.S. Army Day highlights the presence of the Army and its forces in San Antonio. Enjoy patriotic music brought to you by "Fort Sam's Own" 323d Army Band, and a glimpse of life in the Army through a historical uniform presentation and military vehicles on display. Featured speakers include Army 1st Lt. Alma Cooper, the reigning Miss USA. The event is free and open to the public.
During Fiesta, it is tradition for military representatives throughout San Antonio to participate in receptions, parades, pilgrimages and memorials.
