The Alamo is proud to host its inaugural Military Appreciation Family Dayon Veterans Day, November 11. In partnership with News 4 San Antonio and FOX 29, this event will be a celebration of active-duty and former military. Alamo Plaza will have a variety of special activities, guest presenters, demonstrations, live music, exhibits, and more.

"We are so happy to be able to show our respect and gratitude to our military service members this year in person at the Alamo," Kate Rogers said, Executive Director of the Alamo Trust, Inc. "Our active-duty service members and veterans are the reason why our city is affectionately known as 'Military City U.S.A.' They give so much to our community, and providing a day full of programming designed especially for them is the least that we can do."

For one day only, the bell from Camp Alamo in Afghanistan will be put on display in Alamo Hall, along with a selection of artifacts for visitors to see. During this exhibit, a recording of the names of Texan service members who gave their lives during Operation Enduring Freedom will be played in remembrance.

Bell against a Texas flag and a USA flag
The bell that was used at Camp Alamo in Afghanistan will be on display for Military Appreciation Family Day only.

The day's activities will begin with an opening ceremony, wreath-laying, and a musket firing demonstration by the Alamo Living Historians. Military service organizations will have booths set up throughout the Alamo grounds so that they can connect with service members and their families directly.

Some of the organizations that will be present include Heroes Sports, Veteran's Assistance Dogs, Soldiers Angels, Airmen Heritage Training Complex living historians, and more. Veteran musicians from Soldiers, Songs & Voices will perform in Cavalry Courtyard, LEGOLAND Discovery Center Master Model Builder Kevin Hintz will construct a giant American Flag using 18,000 LEGO Bricks, and vintage military vehicles will be on display in Alamo Plaza.

All active-duty military and veterans will receive a free audio tour and an extra free audio tour for one guest.
