The Alamo hosted a special statewide kickoff event this morning to launch History Heroes, a new campaign inviting Texas students, schools, and families to help preserve the iconic landmark through student-led fundraising and classroom participation.
Regional students and educators gathered in front of the historic Alamo Church for the announcement, which featured keynote remarks from Texas Commissioner of Education Mike Morath and Dr. Kate Rogers, President and CEO of Alamo Trust, Inc.
Commissioner Morath commended the initiative’s focus on student engagement and preservation, stating, “Preserving the history of the Alamo requires more than recounting events, it demands rigorous curriculum and thoughtful instruction that provides students with historical context and critical understanding. By grounding young Texans in these lessons, we empower them to engage with our shared past with insight, discernment and Texas pride.”
“The Alamo belongs to every Texan,” said Dr. Rogers during the ceremony. “Through History Heroes, we’re giving young Texans the opportunity to become part of that legacy in a hands-on and meaningful way. Every dollar raised through this campaign will go directly toward protecting the Alamo and ensuring future generations can experience its rich history and purpose.”
The campaign runs from October 2, 2025, through April 21, 2026, following the timeline of the Texas Revolution — from the first shot fired at Gonzales to the final victory at San Jacinto, 190 years ago. The initiative is supported by Raising Cane’s, whose generous partnership provides every registered student with a History Heroes wristband and a free Kids Meal at any Texas Cane’s location, while supplies last.
The campaign features exciting prizes for both students and schools. The top five individual student fundraisers in Texas will earn a VIP trip to the Alamo and a spot on the official Alamo float in the Texas Cavaliers River Parade.
All funds raised will benefit the Remember the Alamo Foundation, which supports long-term preservation and educational programming at the site.
