Experience an afternoon of music and celebration at Fandango at the Alamo, a lively event honoring the anniversary of the fandango held by the Alamo defenders on George Washington’s birthday in 1836. This free, family-friendly event will take place in the recently reopened Plaza de Valero, in front of the historic Menger Hotel, offering guests an opportunity to enjoy live entertainment and community festivities.
Historical records suggest that just days before the Battle of the Alamo, the surrounding community gathered for a fandango to honor George Washington’s birthday. Despite the looming threat of Santa Anna’s approaching army, the men took a moment to celebrate with music, dancing, and camaraderie—a final evening of festivity before the siege began.
This year’s Fandango at the Alamo will feature the Alamo Band, performing two 45-minute sets, and Living History interpreters will be present to engage with guests. Attendees can take in the vibrant atmosphere and celebrate the spirit of this historic tradition.
