The absolute best time to visit The Alamo is during Battle of The Alamo Commemoration each year and the definitive program to experience at the site is undoubtedly Dawn at The Alamo on March 6.

A long-running tradition going back several decades, Dawn at The Alamo features a reverent program that honors the sacrifice that the Alamo Defenders made on the morning of March 6, 1836.

In partnership with the San Antonio Living History Association, Dawn at The Alamo features performances that describe the events leading up to the battle, living history demonstrations depicting the Texian and Mexican armies, musical performances, a reading of Juan Seguin's burial oration, a prayer of reconciliation, and a laying of wreaths that includes organizations like the Daughters of the Republic of Texas and descendants of the Alamo Defenders.

The ceremony will conclude with a live musket firing demonstration and a performance of "Amazing Grace" as the sun rises behind the Alamo Church. Dawn at The Alamo  will be live streamed on the News 4 San Antonio and Fox San Antonio websites and app.

While visiting The Alamo is one countless travel bucketlists for people all around the world, experiencing Dawn at The Alamo with hundreds of Texans in Alamo Plaza on the anniversary of the battle is the definitive way to experience the Shrine of Texas Liberty.

Dawn at The Alamo starts the final day of Battle of The Alamo Commemoration 2022. Visitors can also enjoseveral other programs that same dayThe Alamo Chapter of the Sons of the Republic of Texas will host After The Fall at 10 a.m., and the Alamo Mission Chapter of the Daughters of the Republic of Texas will host their annual memorial service for the heroes of The Alamo at 2 p.m. The Alamo will conclude the day with Remember The Defenders, a solemn evening ceremony in partnership with the Alamo Defenders' Descendants Association, at 6 p.m.

Every year, The Alamo hosts two weeks of immersive programming between February 23 and March 6, known as Battle of The Alamo Commemoration. The absolute best time of the year to visit The Alamo, Battle of The Alamo Commemoration will return in 2023.
