Join the Alamo for the inaugural "Women of Bexar" event on Saturday, May 10, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., celebrating the historic achievements of women who played pivotal roles in the site's history over the past 300 years.

This family-friendly event centered in the Living History Encampment in the Alamo Gardens will captivate all ages as we reveal the inspiring stories of women who changed history.

Visitors will hear about Indigenous women who called this area home when Spain built Mission San Antonio de Valero, known today as the Alamo. They'll also learn about the role women played when the Long Barrack became the first hospital in Texas, and how women like Susanna Dickinson survived the 1836 Battle of the Alamo and were sent to spread the news across Texas.

Plus, visitors will hear how Alamo Plaza played a role in the suffragette movement and how the famous chili queens helped turn Alamo Plaza into the bustling heart of downtown it is today.

Standout highlights will be the firing demonstration conducted entirely by women from the Alamo's Living History team, followed by a one-woman performance about the experience of Battle survivor Susanna Dickinson. Both will take place starting at 11:30 a.m. in Plaza de Valero, the Alamo's newest public space in front of the Menger Hotel.

"Women Of Bexar" is free and open to the public. Join us as the Alamo celebrates the legacy of women who shaped history!
