Today, the Alamo marked a major milestone in its $550 million redevelopment plan with the Topping Out Ceremony for the Texas Cavaliers Education Center — a world-class facility set to welcome more than 250,000 students annually when it opens on March 6, 2026.
Community leaders, students, donors, and elected officials gathered for the celebration, which featured a ceremonial beam signing, remarks from key stakeholders, and the raising of the final structural beam.
Located just steps from the iconic Alamo Church, the Texas Cavaliers Education Center will include an early learners hub, STEAM lab, distance learning studio, orientation theater, agricultural garden, and an outdoor learning stair — all designed to bring Texas history to life for new generations.
Texas Land Commissioner Dr. Dawn Buckingham, whose office oversees the Alamo on behalf of the people of Texas, emphasized the importance of education as a cornerstone of preservation efforts:
“This center will not only protect the legacy of the Alamo — it will empower young Texans to connect with it in ways we never imagined,” said Commissioner Buckingham. “By combining cutting-edge educational tools with deeply rooted Texas history, we’re investing in both our past and our future.”
This won’t be just a building — it will be a launchpad for learning, leadership, and lifelong curiosity,” said Dr. Kate Rogers, Executive Director of Alamo Trust, Inc. “This Center is our commitment to enhancing education for our students, teachers, and the communities we reach through the Alamo.”
The Texas Cavaliers were honored as the lead and largest donor of $5 million for the facility. Their early support helped launch the vision for the Education Center. Their generosity was joined by meaningful contributions from partners, including the Kate Marmion Charitable Foundation, Susan Naylor, Ewing Halsell Foundation, Mays Family Foundation, Circle Bar Foundation, Betty Stieren Kelso Foundation, and Shannon Ralston, whose collective support continues to shape this transformative space for students and educators.
The ceremony marked another key step toward the 2026 grand opening. The beam, now raised atop the future Center, carries the signatures of students, educators, and civic leaders — each one a reminder of the shared commitment to preserving and teaching Texas history.
