Lady Bird Fountain

In 1974, the family of Marshall T. Steves donated The Lady Bird Johnson fountain to the City of San Antonio in honor of the former First Lady.

The fountain was located on the Alamo grounds at the intersection of Crockett and Bonham Streets. Years of pre-existing damage to the fountain had rendered it inoperable, and with ongoing efforts to restore Alamo Plaza, the City of San Antonio discussed the idea of relocating the fountain to another park nearby. Instead, the Steves family requested to have the fountain returned for private use.

The family witnessed the disassembly and was very appreciative of the care given to the stone fountain by the workman. The fountain has been returned to the family, unharmed, while the concrete bollards that were later installed to prevent climbing on the fountain will be demolished.
