                                         Custodians of the Alamo

The Daughters of the Republic of Texas, Inc. (DRT) was appointed as custodian of the Alamo by the State of Texas in 1905 and is responsible for the operation, maintenance, and preservation of the Alamo Complex.  The DRT receives no federal, state, or local tax money with which to meet these responsibilities.  The members of the DRT are dedicated to the perpetuation of the memory and spirit of the men who fought at the Alamo and the encouragement of study and research into the lives of the men and women who achieved the independence of Texas.

The Board of Management consists of all the elected officers of the DRT, the retiring President General and the Parliamentarian.

The Alamo Committee is an administrative body operating under the direction of the Board of Management.  It consists of nine appointed members: the committee chairman, five members from San Antonio DRT chapters, and one member each from three chapters located in other areas of the state.  The Alamo Committee is responsible for Alamo buildings and grounds and has authority over operations and activities conducted on Alamo property.

Mission Statement: The Daughters of the Republic of Texas are dedicated to the preservation of the Alamo as a sacred memorial to the Alamo Defenders.  The DRT is committed to the conservation of the historic grounds and the research and study of Texas history.

The Alamo Complex includes the land encompassed by the curb line bounded by Alamo Plaza, East Houston Street, Bonham Street, and Crockett Street.  It also includes the Gallagher property annex located at 723 East Houston Street.

The Alamo Rangers are the security force protecting people and property on the Alamo Complex.  They operate under a Letter of Authority issued to the DRT by the Texas Department of Public Safety.
